Comparison between barley malt protein quantification methods

Brazil imports about 60% of all the malt used by brewing industry which is spread throughout country. Even though it an agricultural country, only a small portion barley production has characteristics to produce for brewing. Seeking supply ever-growing demand and reducing dependency on other countries logistic costs, malting industries genetic enhancement companies endeavor adapt Brazilian Savannah conditions. For be malted, crucial develop cultivars with necessary qualities adapted region good yield. Considering importance protein process, four quantification methods were compared: combustion - carbon, hydrogen nitrogen elemental analysis Dumas digestion ones Kjeldahl flux injection (FIA). The methodologies tested showed correlations (higher than 0.881) variations associated matrix complexity. All satisfactory from agronomic perspective. Yet, we recommend as they generate fewer residues results are ready in up 6 minutes. Therefore, most suited considering lab routine.
